Community Use of School Sporting Facilities Program

Increasing community access to school sporting facilities across Western Australia.

The Community Use of School Sporting Facilities Program aims to facilitate partnerships and agreements between schools and community sporting groups to better utilise existing facilities and will be prioritised in areas of high demand for sporting facilities.

The program, developed by the Department of Local Government Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC) and the Department of Education, will identify, expand and enhance opportunities to:

  • increase access to sporting facilities for community sporting groups
  • improve school sporting facilities to enhance useability
  • support schools in making their sports facilities accessible outside school hours without compromising student safety or educational activities
  • encourage partnerships between schools and community sporting groups through community use agreements.
  • focus on areas of high demand for community sporting facilities.

The funding will be allocated to ensure facilities are appropriate and accessible for community sporting use.

  • Schools must demonstrate a need for additional resources to support community sporting group use of facilities and a commitment from local sporting group to regularly access the facility.

  • Minor upgrades to facilities such as the installation of gates, locks and monitoring equipment for safe access outside school hours.
